Exporting Data from REsearch Hawaii

Using the Report Format to setup the Download Format

Before you can download data, you must first setup the download format.  This is a one time action that you will need to do.  The format must be setup exactly as shown in this section for the Buying Pattern application to understand the format.

Once you’ve logged into the REsearch Hawaii system, under Step 1:Search Type, select the Download Format option.  Then under Step 2:Report Format, and select the Custom option and press the  button as you see above.  You will now see the ‘Select Fields for Custom Format’ screen as shown below.

Select fields from the “MLS data”, and “Property data” sections and move them over to the “Selected Fields” section.  To pick the fields, select a field from the above tables.  You will see the item move to the table at the bottom.

Do this for each of the options as shown in the graphic above.

Note: Be sure that you create the ‘Selected Fields’ table exactly as shown below.  Each of the items shown below must be in the same order as well.  If you need to move the order of the items, select the item and use the  and the   keys to make sure the items are exactly as shown below.  The items should be listed in the following order:

Once you have completed the task above, save the results by pressing the  button.  The “Save the Current Format” display will be shown next.

Place the name “Focus1st” as the “Format Name” as shown above.  Then press the  button.  You are now ready to do your MLS search and export your results.

REsearch Hawaii MLS

In selecting data from REsearch Hawaii MLS, be sure to select the options below:

Make sure that all the status options are selected and under the Step 2:Report Format select the Focus1st option.  Additionally, since the Neighborhood Buying Patterns will only use the last two years of data, you may limit the amount of data downloaded by setting a listing date.  Use the  button and set the listing date as shown below.

Here the listing date of 01/01/2002 is set.  This should make sure that we don’t omit and activity that may have occurred since 2006.  This action is optional and will allow you to limit the amount of data downloaded.

You should also make your normal selection choice by selecting other options that you would normally select in doing a CMA (under the Step 3:Search Parameters option).  As mentioned earlier, looking at activity in specific subdivisions is a good starting point.

Once you’ve selected the search criteria, Step 4:Select a function: press the  button to download the results.  When the download has completed you will see a dialog box as shown below.

Select the save option and then choose a file name and location.

Be sure to remember where you save your file.  This is the exported file that will be used to create your graphs.

You will see dialog boxes similar to what you see below.

Once you have saved your exported file, you are ready to run the Neighborhood Buying Patterns application.

When you run the application you will need to point to the exported data file, so make sure that you’ve placed the file in an easy to find place.

For instructions on how to run the Neighborhood Buying Pattern application, be sure to see the Neighborhood Buying Pattern manual (installed on your desktop when you installed the application).
